Last night’s council roundup

Here’s a quick overview of what the City Council talked about and acted on last night. I’ll get into more details on many of these items at another time, either later today or tomorrow.

  • Saluted a small minority of Kyle’s youth but told the majority of them they were not to be trusted so it was extending a curfew.
  • Heard results from three studies, two of which said electronic billboards posed a safety hazard, then dismissed them to talk about how many billboards should be installed on I-35.
  • Heard that Kyle was on the cusp of being labeled a non-attainment zone because of ozone levels.
  • Heard about a how other cities were attracting "quality" developments along their major thoroughfares without ever defining "quality" or even discussing how or even if Kyle should develop such strategies.
  • Told San Marcos is could erect a "welcome to …" sign on the Kyle side of their mutual border if Kyle could do the same on the other side.
  • Heard from City Manager Scott Sellers who told them an ordinance regulating large non-motorized vehicles parked in subdivision streets would be terribly difficult to enforce.
  • Heard the status of the road bond projects and celebrated all the repair work performed on Goforth Road.
  • Debated whether council members should meet when it’s in the best interests of the city or when it’s most convenient for current council members. I bet you can guess which side won that argument.
